Rodney King Found Dead at 47

A key civil rights figure in the 1992 L.A. riots, Rodney King was found by his fiancee this morning at the bottom of his swimming pool. After officers and paramedics performed CPR he was pronounced dead. King is known for being the victim of a recorded instance of police brutality from LAPD officers who beat and kicked him.

The acquittals of the officers involved sparked outrage in the black community and led to the LA riots which brought looting, fires and millions in damages to the city.

King's famous plea for an end to the hatred and his words "why can't we all get along?" still ring true to this day. While he was compensated he struggled with alcoholism and arrests and appeared on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab". RIP.
